It is best if you stay off your new lawn until it has been mowed the first time. Try to restrict heavy use, playing children and dogs for approximately 3 months to limit potential damage to the root structure.
Water Your New Lawn!
Do not allow your new lawn area to dry out for at least two weeks after planting. Keep the soil moist at all times. Increase watering time during hot and windy weather. As your lawn matures, deeper, less frequent watering is advised. It is best to water during daylight hours.
Seed and Hydro-Seed Germination
The first blades of grass should appear approximately 14 days after planting depending on soil and air temperature and moisture. The entire germination process will take approximately 30 days to complete.
Mowing
Mow your lawn as soon as grass blades are about 3 inches tall. Seed and hydro-seed should take about 30 days under most conditions. Make sure that mower blades are sharp and never cut off more than 1/3 of the blade at each mowing. Continue to mow as needed to a height of 2 to 2 1/2 inches.
Tree and Plant Selection
The following website includes a section for woody and herbaceous plants, pictures and general information such as soil requirements, sun/shade tolerance and height/spread.
Fertilizing
It is critical to fertilize all new lawns 30 days after installation. Fertilize every 4 to 6 weeks using a balanced slow release fertilizer. Apply per manufacturer recommendations.
Weed Control
Do not apply weed control products for 3 months after lawn installation.
Over-Seeding
Over seed your lawn in April or September to help maintain a dense weed-free turf.
